    Attorney John G. Caulfield - Of Counsel

 

     Mr. John G. Caulfield is a New York City native who now resides in Ulster County with his wife and daughter. Mr. Caulfield graduated from the State University of New York in 1984 with Honors in History, and went on to Fordham Law School, where he graded on to the Fordham Law Review, and graduated in 1987. From 1987-1988, he served as Law Clerk to US District Judge Robert E. DeMascio in Detroit, researching and drafting proposed decisions in a wide array of federal cases.

     From 1988 to 1992 he was an Associate Attorney in the Litigation department of Kaye, Scholer, Fierman, Hays & Handler in New York City. He worked on the defense of securities law, toxic tort, antitrust, environmental, and contract claims; and disputed corporate acquisitions. After 1992, he was in his own firm (Smith & Caulfield) in Kingston, NY, where he represented individuals and small businesses in a variety of cases, including litigated contract, real property, matrimonial, and estate matters. He also worked as an Associate Attorney for three years at Fabiani & Cohen in New York City, where he focused on the defense of Labor Law, premises liability, and civil rights claims, and provided analyses of complex insurance coverage issues. Mr. Caulfield joined the Law Office of Alan R. Lewis in 1998, where he has handled a wide variety of matters over the years, especially the defense of insured businesses and property owners in premises liability, civil rights and Labor Law cases. He has also worked on insurance coverage cases, as well as the prosecution of subrogation suits on behalf of insurers.  

     Mr. Caulfield retired from full-time employment in 2018 but remains associated with the firm on an “Of Counsel” basis.
